Dogies' State Championship Dream Ends
Newcastle fell to Lovell Thursday afternoon at the Casper Events Center in a 3A Boys State Quarterfinal, 50-46. Nick Pisciotti led the Dogies with 19 points, 6 rebounds. Kade Ferguson scored 11 points with 6 rebounds. Newcastle rallied from 10 points down to tie the game on a Jeremy Beehler steal and layup with 1:04 remaining, but two Grant Geiser free throws 14 seconds later put Lovell ahead to stay.

State Tournament Time
Newcastle Dogie boys basketball has a 3A state tournament team for the fourth straight year.
The Dogies clinched a state berth Saturday with a 53-36 victory over Lander Valley in a consolation semifinal at the 3A East Regional Tournament in Buffalo. Later in the day, the Dogies claimed 3rd place with a 58-50 win over Torrington.

Lady Dogies' Season Ends; Tough Loss for Dogie Boys
On Friday at the 3A East Regional Tournament in Buffalo, Newcastle's Lady Dogies fell to Wheatland, 54-31. Newcastle's season ends at 5-19.
The Dogie boys lost to Douglas 51-48 in a regional semfinal. Now, Newcastle must win on Saturday afternoon against Lander Valley to clinch a spot in the state tournament. Hear the game Saturday at 1:50 PM (MST) on AM 1240 KASL or here online.
Lady Dogies Fall, Boys Trimuph at Regional
On the first day of the 3A East Regional Tournament in Buffalo, the Newcastle Lady Dogies fell to Glenrock, 48-15. Next for Newcastle is a consolation bracket game with Wheatland on Friday morning at 8:30. The Lady Dogies must win to keep their season going. The Dogie boys smothered Torrington, 53-38, behind 21 points from Nick Pisciotti and 15 points and 23 rebounds by Kade Ferguson. Newcastle will meet top seed Douglas on Friday night in the regional semifinal for a berth in next week's 3A state tournament. Both Newcastle Dogie varsity basketball teams are struggling heading into the 3A East Regional Tournament, which will open Thursday in Buffalo.
The Lady Dogies were 2-11 in the regular season in 3A East and are the 7th seed. They will meet 2nd seed Glenrock at 12:15 PM on Thursday. Glenrock swept the two regular-season games, including a 47-18 win at the Dogie Dome on Saturday.
Once, the Dogie boys were 10-5. Since then, they've dropped 6 of their last 7 to end the regular season at 11-11 and 6-7 in 3A East. The 5th-seeded Dogies will meet 4th seed Torrington on Thursday at 5:30 PM. Our broadcast on KASL and our webcast here will begin at about 5:20 PM (MST). Each team won at home this regular season, with Torrington taking a last-second win in Goshen County in December and the Dogies squeaking out a 4-point win at the Dogie Dome in January.
